As I Wander...

Welcome!
Living in tropical Malaysia, we tend to take the hot humid weather, thundery rainstorms and the spectrum of wild evergreen plants as a given.

Recently, I noticed more exotic plants making its way into landscaped home gardens, recreational parks, frontages of shopping malls and
commercial buildings.

Along kerb sides of residential streets and busy motorways, palms, trees and flowering plants make pleasant and interesting fringes.

This is a record of the various species "as I see it" for I am in awe of palms. Hence, my premise for this blog is that the global garden,
i.e. every physical garden (tended or untended), becomes a part of my, simply said, cyber palm garden. ;-)

The Bottle Palm #2

Botanical Name : Hyophorbe lagenicaulis

Further to previous posts, The Bottle Palm,  this specimen certainly takes the cake!

Its interesting form is that it has a wind swept, reclining trunk which is rather unusual. Reminds one of the Leaning Tower of Pisa but more leaning. Fortunately, it's sited to receive the full sun and hence, not slanted towards the sunlight as earlier thought.

Gauging from its new shoot, it's certainly trying to 'correct' its path to maintain a decent balance for future survival.

Meanwhile, its freshly bloomed inflorescence with clusters of small white flowers has certainly attracted the  attention of some small insects including a red dragon fly.

The future of this unique 'bottle trunk' located at The Secret Garden is going to be quite spectacular, a clear diversion from the way it was and I hope we get to see how nature takes its course, albeit in a long, long while yet.
